Caucus Members
We, at AAAEA have been working with engineering firms to get their
old computers and monitors and give them to schools and social
agencies.
I would like to encourage you to reach out to your members to join
this project. It will help students and members of our community,
and the donations will be tax benefit.

ASSOCIATE
CIVIL ENGINEER
ORIGINAL ENTRANCE
DUTIES: Under general supervision, performs ordinary civil
engineering work in connection with design, construction, inspection and
scheduling review, operation and maintenance of water reclamation plants
and sewers, surveys, specifications and estimates, inspection of
materials and workmanship, project and cost control and complex
engineering computations; may supervise subordinate engineers and
sub-professional personnel.
REQUIREMENTS: The following requirements must be met by April 29,
2007:
1. Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring
in civil, sanitary or structural engineering and two years of full-time,
post-degree civil engineering experience related to the District’s
activities. An accredited four-year college or university is interpreted
to mean accreditation by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the
Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
Foreign-educated applicants must produce a satisfactory assessment of
their academic qualifications by the Center for Professional Engineering
Education Services (CPEES). The CPEES assessment and any additional
coursework used to correct deficiencies must be completed by April 29,
2007.
Substitution: Graduate study in the designated fields of engineering may
be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
2. Domiciled within the boundaries of the District within six months of
successful completion of probation. (The District is in Cook County,
Illinois.)
SALARY: The 2007 salary range is $62,440.04 to $95,119.96 per
year with appointment usually made at the first (entry) step.
THE EXAMINATION will consist of a written test weighted 100%. The
minimum passing score on the written test will be 70% unless determined
otherwise by the Director of Personnel. Candidates must achieve a
passing score to have their names placed on the eligible list.
The written test will assess candidates’ knowledge, skill and ability in
areas such as principles of civil engineering related to hydraulics of
open channel and pipe flow; hydrology related to flood control and storm
water flows; civil engineering calculations and mathematical principles;
wastewater/sludge treatment design, operations, maintenance and
regulations; engineering cost estimations and economic analysis;
engineering materials including concrete, gravel and soil properties;
construction methods and management; contracts and contract
administration; principles of supervision and principles of written
communication.
APPLICATION AND EXAMINATION PROCESS:
1. Applications may be obtained from the Personnel Public Service
Office of the District by phoning (312) 751-5100 or by visiting the
District’s web site at www.mwrd.org. The filing period for this
examination will be through Friday, March 30, 2007. Completed
applications must be filed by one of the following methods:
a . Delivered to the Personnel Public Service
Office, weekdays from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through March 30, 2007.
b . Sent by mail to the Personnel Public Service
Office, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, First Floor, 100 East
Erie Street, Chicago, IL 60611. Applications sent by mail must bear a
postmark no later than March 30, 2007.
2. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the
application form is completed and submitted in a timely manner by one of
the methods described above. Descriptions and dates of education and
experience should be very clear so that it is understood exactly how the
applicant meets the minimum requirements.
All applicants will be advised in writing whether they have been
admitted to the examination process. The written test will be
administered on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the Loyola University, 25 E.
Pearson, Chicago, IL. Candidates should report at 9:00 a.m. with the
admission letter and a driver's license or other form of photo
identification. Candidates may bring a cordless, quiet calculator for
use during the test. No books, study guides, cell phones, PDAs, laptops
or other aids will be allowed.
VERIFICATION OF QUALIFICATIONS: Prospective employees will be
required to provide documentation of the required education and
experience upon employment.
APPOINTMENTS will be made from an eligible list with three
categories: A (Exceptionally Well Qualified), B (Well Qualified) and C
(Qualified). Candidates in the highest category will be given first
consideration for appointment. This examination is also being given on a
Promotional basis. In instances where both Original Entrance and
Promotional eligible lists result from an examination process, it is the
District’s practice to appoint only from the Promotional eligible list
until all names from that list have been considered. The eligible list
has a duration of three years. New employees will be required to pass a
physical examination which will include a drug test.
